Review by Jerome Johnston (Cybersecurity Editor)

A while ago, screensavers were only used to prevent phosphor burn-in on CRT and plasma computer monitors by blanking the screen or filling it with moving images or patterns when the computer was not in use. Today's screensavers are used primarily for entertainment or security, as the display technology is far more advanced and CRT monitors are getting fewer and fewer, making way for LCDs. Every Windows operating system comes with some built-in screensavers, but most of them are extremely simple and certainly no eye-candy. It would be great if you could create your own screensaver out of video file. Now you can do this with the help of VideoSaver. It's a software that allows creating screensavers using one or more video files.

The program has a point and click installation process that completes fast and requires little effort from the user. It can run on most versions of Microsoft Windows and takes up little hard disk space and it's system resources friendly.

VideoSaver adds a new item in the list of Windows screensavers. From there it can be configured. The video files supported by VideoSaver are the ones supported by Windows Media Player. The maximum number of video files that can be added is unlimited. The software can be configured to play the videos one after another or randomly. It can also retain the position where it was last stopped and continue the playback from that point.

The video playlist can be easily saved, for reusing it later. Every video file can have its own settings, like the volume level, speed or size.

Pros

It's very easy to use and allows easy playback of every video file supported by Windows Media Player. It can also save the video playlist. Besides that, it can configure the settings for each video clip, like speed, volume or size.

Cons

It can seem too simple for a beginner. Moreover, the number of options is limited. VideoSaver is a great screensaver maker that allows easy playback of almost any video file.
